A celebration of eight individuals going above and beyond for good, clean and fair food for all in 2020. Join us on December 6 to celebrate this year’s Snailblazers, raise a glass in their honor with good food enthusiasts around the country, and turn that COVID pivot into a little dance.
Slow Food USA announces the fourth cohort of Snailblazers, individuals in the good food movement who have gone above and beyond for good, clean and fair food in the past year. They will be introduced during a virtual award ceremony and celebration on December 6, 2020, with recognition given by well-known celebrities and activists Isabella Rossellini, Alice Waters, Pierre Thiam, Edie Mukiibi, Winona laduke, Raj Patel and others.
The Slow Food Snailblazer award is one of the only grassroots, national awards that focuses on both sustainable food and community impact. The awards recognize individuals who are beloved in their communities, sometimes widely known but often not known nationally. These people represent the creative and resilient response of individuals and communities in response to the pandemic this year, and their action around social justice. Slow Food leaders and members nominated over 70 outstanding people, and a panel of independent judges selected one person in each of eight categories: biodiversity, children + education, cooking + community, emerging young leader, family farming, fishing + waterways, food + ag advocacy, and food justice.
The Snailblazer Awards Party will feature Dominican singer-songwriter and healer Irka Mateo; breakout conversations with the Snailblazer awardees and Heritage Radio Network hosts Lisa Held, Harry Rosenblum and Hannah Fordin; and a special cocktail demo with the Cocktail Bandits.
