How we can educate around food? On the one hand there’s theory, which is important, but just as important – if not more – for children and young people to receive practical education through contact with food.
Contact with food means being able to bring children to production sites, to farms, and giving them the chance to experience other spaces and lives that would normally be denied, especially for city kids. It means becoming more aware of the world through our senses: observing agricultural work, touching, smelling and tasting food. Some businesses are moving in this direction, proposing experiences that are easily replicated elsewhere.
Andrea Valenziani is an agricultural entrepreneur who produces organic citrus fruits in Carlentini, Sicily. He’s the founder and President of InCampagna, a network project aiming to make agriculture a profitable career and at the same time an ethical, efficient, innovative, collaborative and inclusive choice, with maximum care given to the issues of legality and environmental sustainability.
The Food Talks are a new and freely accessible format of Terra Madre Salone del Gusto: ten minutes for our guests to explore their thoughts on the world we live in, and the future we want for it!
