We can better understand the world around us when we learn by doing and playing. Slow Food has been working for years on sensory education, promoting an experiential educational approach that focuses on pleasure, conviviality and the emotional and relational dimension of knowledge.

And this is why we protect biodiversity through the senses: for us, in fact, biodiversity is preserved and enhanced by eating. But how can we make children and young people in particular understand the importance of protecting biodiversity? How can we guide them in the rediscover their senses and understand the impact of their food choices, and the link between the health of the planet, our health and the defense of biodiversity?

This training webinar, organized as part of the EU-funded COVCHEG project, is dedicated to biodiversity: how to teach it in school, with design and teaching examples.

Speakers:

  • Francesco Sottile, technical consultant for the the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity
  • Luisa Fazzini, teacher at the Istituto Comprensivo Graziella Murari in Valeggio sul Mincio (Verona), member of the regional board of the Italian Association of Geography Teachers in Veneto and national Slow Food advisor
  • Maria Alicia Ramirez, director and founder of the Chukuwata Foundation and leader of the Slow Food Barranquilla Convivium.

What you take home:

Some notions related to biodiversity: how to recognize it and share it

An in-depth look at some educational projects, such as Ark of Taste and Orto in Condotta, and their international applications
