The meeting will be an opportunity to talk about the fascinating world of bees and honey.
Sentinels of the ecological balance, these insects are precious for agriculture and give us extraordinary products. We will talk about their zoology and social organisation, animal types and beekeeping in Italy, reviewing the role of the beekeeper, the seasons and production cycles. Alongside wax, pollen, propolis and royal jelly, honey is the great protagonist: its organoleptic and nutritional characteristics, descriptions of the main varieties and the regulations governing their production and marketing, labelling, derivatives. We will be with Cinzia Scaffidi (author of various books including “The World of Bees and Honey”), Giuseppe Barretta (food and wine expert), Fabio Silvestre (beekeeper) and Maria Schinaia (president of the Soroptmist Club of Grottaglie). On the occasion of the centenary of Soroptimist International, the Italian Union is carrying out an environmental project for the protection and conservation of some endangered species, first of all bees.
