The project to protect biodiversity “We love the land – let’s defend the future”, addressed to the Agricultural Institutes of our Region, and launched in 2018 thanks to the memorandum of understanding between the Emilia-Romagna Region and Slow Food Italy, concludes with a Webinar in which the protagonists will be the students, future guardians of our biodiversity.
We love the land – Let’s defend the future has made it possible for young students to understand the meaning and value of biodiversity in natural ecosystems and agroecosystems; to learn about the main varieties to be preserved and reproduced in order to be able to spread knowledge and information about its value, to create a sense of belonging and inclusion with their territory. Students from the third classes of 5 Agricultural Institutes have been involved, to which the sections of the Hoteliers in the Institutes where there is a double address have been gradually added in order to cover the whole regional territory.
The first Institute involved is Zanelli of Reggio Emilia, with a tutor role, which has been working for over twenty years to safeguard agricultural biodiversity. The other Institutes involved are: Istituto Statale d’Istruzione Superiore Agraria e Alberghiera “G. Raineri” – “G. Mar-cora”, Piacenza; Istituto di Istruzione Superiore “Arrigo Serpieri”, Bologna; Istituto d’Istruzione Su-periore “O. Vergani-F.lli Navarra”, Ferrara; Istituto Professionale “Persolino-Strocchi”, Faenza. The research carried out, the species recovered and the work of the whole school year have produced a publication that will be presented in the webinar and that tells the story of the path taken with the children. It reports ideas and thoughts on the work done, with the hope of having planted a seed for the future of our planet.
