NEW FORMATS: TERRA MADRE IN SCHOOLS
The Covid-19 emergency has had a heavy impact on the daily life of children and schools in countries around the world. Class activities have been redesigned as digital experiences, but there are still a lot of big questions about the future of schools and the social life of students.
For Terra Madre Salone del Gusto we’re proposing due types of activities, and we’re certain that these initiatives will become increasingly rich in stimuli and new proposals thanks to the contribution of the Slow Food network worldwide.
THE ARK OF TASTE GOES TO SCHOOL
Once upon a time there was—and in fact there still is!—the Valley of the Ark, a place where every element is unique and special, but it’s in danger of disappearing because of the Big Gray invading the valley. Mamma Snail, accompanied by her friends Anita and Hector, is on a mission to save the Valley. During the journey children discover what allows this diversity to exist: the environment, culture and taste. Thanks to the wise guidance of Mamma Snail and their boundless curiosity, they’ll find a way to save the Valley.
At Terra Madre Salone del Gusto we’re pleased to present The Ark of Taste goes to school, a multilingual educational kit for children aged 7 to 13. It’s composed of a story and educational cards to develop the five senses and a poster to fill in collectively and hang up in class. The version of the kit in Italian and English includes a theatrical audiobook version of the story, too!
Have you decided what you want to do when you grow up? Come and meet people who do some of the most noble, important yet underappreciated jobs around. You can talk to farmers, fishers, herders, food writers, ice cream makers… and experiment with sustainable production techniques with your own hands! With the help of Slow Food and lots of practical activities you can learn the secrets of each job.
Fresh from its success at Slow Fish and Cheese in 2019, in October we’re bringing back Whose farmer?, designed for teenagers. During Terra Madre Salone del Gusto we’ll have three meetings in schools in Turin, but if you want to know more, we can expand the activity internationally! Ask our Education Office for more details – we’re happy to share what we’ve got.
