ASSOCIATION OF PIEDMONTESE BANK FOUNDATIONS

The Associazione delle Fondazioni di Origine Bancaria del Piemonte (Association of Piedmontese Bank Foundations), founded in 1995, brings together the Fondazioni Cassa di Risparmio of Alessandria, Asti, Biella, Cuneo, Fossano, Saluzzo, Savigliano, Turin, Tortona and Vercelli and the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo.

The association’s objective is to promote and implement joint initiatives, analyze and harmonize the activities carried out by individual foundations and encourage dialog on topics of common interest.

A quarter of a century since its formation, the system of Piedmontese foundations has today become an essential element in the development of the region’s social, cultural and economic fabric. In 2020, the eleven Piedmontese foundations made over €242 million available to the local area.

The foundation system has been severely tested by the on-going health emergency linked to the coronavirus, and has sought to bring all of its strengths and skills into play in order to weather this storm. Considerable resources were promptly reallocated, new calls for applications were put out and vehicles and equipment provided for hospitals: a demonstration of how much these new key players within the social fabric represent an invaluable and strategic asset for the local area.

The association has also set up an observatory to better understand, evaluate and direct the member foundations in regards to the local socio-economic context. At the center of the observatory’s activities is the construction and updating of a database that will collect and organize the donations made by the Piedmontese bank foundations and many other variables relating to the foundations’ areas of intervention. The observatory’s most significant results will be published in the annual reports, which can be freely consulted on the association’s website.

The Association of Piedmontese Bank Foundations has supported the organization of Terra Madre Salone del Gusto since the very first edition. The Association also supports other projects, including: The Fondazione Radici, the first in Piedmont to specifically deal with the protection, safeguarding and promotion of the memory of the local area; the Fondo Nazionale per il Contrasto della Povertà Educativa Minorile (national fund for preventing children’s education poverty), launched by ACRI, one of the foundations’ most important collective interventions, involving all ages from infancy to adolescence (0-17 years); support for the  Osservatorio di Diritto del Terzo Settore, della Filantropia e dell’Impresa Sociale (the observatory for third sector, philanthropy and social enterprise law) to encourage study and research activities for understanding and effectively applying the third-sector reform; and the promotion of reading to younger generations with the Turin International Book Fair’s “Adopt a Writer” project.
